
Douglas Keene, President Theosophical Society in America
Douglas Keene, MD, MPH, has been a member of the Theosophical Society in America since 1980, first joining in San Antonio, Texas, while in medical school. He was also a member of the inaugural class of the Partners in Theosophy program. He has served for several years on the TSA Board of Directors, initially as Eastern Director then one term as Vice President and currently as President. During this time, Doug has made many visits to the Society’s locations in Wheaton, Illinois, Adyar, India, and the Krotona Institute in Ojai, California, for various programs and projects. He has presented at a number of lodges in the eastern United States, at the Ojai Valley TS Lodge, and at the TSA summer national convention in Wheaton.
He is a family doctor who has practiced for more than thirty-three years, initially in northwest rural Alaska, above the Arctic Circle. Later in his career, he earned a master’s degree in public health with a concentration in Global Health, following which he worked in Lesotho, Africa, for two years training native doctors. Following this he was a director in an extended care nursing facility for five years before retiring from medicine. He has written a book titled “the Universal Spirit: Exploring Theosophical Questions” that is now available from Quest Bookshop. When not in Wheaton, Doug and his wife, Risa, live in New Hampshire.
